After a good period of inactivity an U15s XI took to the field on Sunday 22nd May in the ERCB Vitality Cup when they made th etrip to Livingston Cricket Club.
This was the first time this team had been bought together, with players from both Callander and Westquarter & Redding making up the team as part of the clubs joint affiliation. Captained by Caledonian Highlanders U15s player Ryan Glen the team equiped themselves well, showing plenty of promise for the future in the process.
It was always going to be a tough ask against an experienced livingston team whom have played significantly more hardball cricket at this level and it showed in the first 10 overs as the opposition raced to 84/1, but the team stuck at it and with some great determination, plus a couple amazing stops by Bob O'Growney they kept Livingston to 140/5 a good 30/40 runs short of what they had hoped to post.
With very little batting experience within the lineup it was always going to be the hardest task of the day for this team and it went on to be just that, losing a wicket first ball could have made their heads drop and just be rolled over so the fact that they batted their full 20 overs was an absolute credit to the team, yes only postimng 61/7 came nowhere near challenging the set target of 141 but it gave the Coach plenty to be proud of and the player all exprfessed a keeness to really improve with th ebat next time out. With a Masterclass in batting coming from former Scotland International Qasim Sheikh on 6th June they will have a great opportunity to learn more about the art of batting in games.
With more games coming up for this group we really cant wait to watch them develop as a group.
